Vsprs, choreographer Alain Platel’s new creation,
joyfully plunges a piece of sacred music by Monteverdi (Maria Vespers) into swing music
improvised with gypsy and baroque sounds. The singer and instrumentalists evolve on stage with a serenity that is in vivid contrast with the gestural
and existential frenzy running through the dancers.
