It’s with Daddy… and his dissident vision of contemporary African dance that the South African choreographer Robyn Orlin first appeared on European stages. Through humour, she gives a sartorial view of post-apartheid society and the tradition of classical ballet
Created in Johannesburgh, in 1998.
This piece, commissioned by the FNB Vita Dance Umbrella, won the British theatre’s Laurence Olivier Award for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Dance’ in London in 2003, the Jan Fabre Award for the most subversive choreography at the Rencontres Chorégraphiques Internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis in Paris in 2000 and the third price at the Rencontres Chorégraphiques Africaines et de l’Océan Indien (Afrique en Créations) in 1999.
