The first show for a young audience by Thomas Hauert, Danse étoffée sur musique déguisée is a solo for the dancer Mat Voorter on the Sonatas and Interludes for Prepared Piano by John Cage, here interpreted live by Daan Vandewalle. A prepared piano is a piano in which screws, gum and bits of rubber placed between the strings lead to sonic territories as “unheard of” as they are strangely familiar. Transposing this idea to the body, Thomas Hauert and his team have created a performance that allows the deployment of the imaginary by separating itself from theatrical narration.

Wrapped up in a cocoon of inflatable balloons, covers and broom handles, the dancer Mat Voorter enters a metamorphosis, putting his body to a severe test. Along the way, he meets strange creatures… Here, nothing is normal, or rather: everything is extraordinary! Between poetry and humour, creation and destruction, Danse étoffée sur musique deguisée makes of physical constraint a way to weave a spell upon the world.
