Within Renaissance lille3000.
In partnership with Liaisons musicales – Marcq-en-Barœul
A woman, fan in hand, sings a poem to the rhythmic interjections of a drum. It is from shamanic rituals that the pansori, the traditional Korean opera, draws its incredible evocative powers. The singer Cho Joo-Seon is a living monument to this ancestral art, which, as often happens, continues to inspire artists today. One such is the composer Marie-Helene Bernard, who delights in juxtaposing artistic disciplines and transfers between east and west. She draws inspiration from pansori to blend the poetry of words, the power of rhythms and the timbre of the voice. A creative work drawn from a 2013 residence at the Villa Medicis and interpreted here with the percussionist Françoise Rivalland, herself a major name in musical theatre alongside Georges Aperghis.
