Pierrot Lunaire is the emblematic work of Schoenberg. It is unique in its use of speech-song for voice, which gives an ironic twist to the poem by Giraud. The soprano Alda Caeillo is one of the work’s great interpreters. This Pierrot is preceded by the Symphony for chamber orchestra in an arrangement for piano quintet by Webern. The Prazák Quartet gives a fiery interpretation that lends a powerful musical depth to this piece.
