BARBARA-FAIROUZ
PARIS-BEIRUT-TUNIS SONGS OF BARBARA AND FAIROUZ
“ I am Tunisian, but not only. I am of today, but not only. ” Dorsaf Hamdani
Through an intuition, through the voice of an inspired singer, we find united for an evening: the long brown Parisian lady and the Lebanese diva, Barbara and Fairouz. Trained in the malouf – the Arab-Andalousian music of Tunisia – and the semi-classical genres of Machrek in the 20th century, Dorsaf Hamdani has imagined this intimate encounter between two cultures, two freedoms, two strange claims. “I did not want to leave Fairouz in his world and Barbara in hers, with me in the middle going back and forth between two souls and two universes. You need to be very careful not to fall into collage, and create a third universe that would include me. I wanted them to talk to one to another, as if they were sitting quietly together, like two friends.” Musical director of the project, accordionist Daniel Mille is joined by three musicians, including the virtuoso violinist Zied Zouari, for an evening mixing melancholia, laughter and modest tears, from Paris to Beirut, once again examining the eternal question of love…
