More than 50 years before Händel’s Agrippina, Monteverdi took an interest in the Emperor Nero’s court, where amorous desire literally seizes power. To interpret these characters devoured by passion, the singers of this new production can count on the powerful theatricality of the stage director, Jean-François Sivadier. After collaborating on Le Nozze di Figaro in 2008, he is reunited with Emmanuelle Haïm at the Lille Opera to bring out the physical and sensual dimension of Monteverdi’s final opera.
