The renowned Flemish stage director Guy Cassiers takes on a work marking the birth of French lyric tragedy : Xerse was originally an Italian opera written in 1654 by Francesco Cavalli before being recreated in Paris for the occasion of the marriage of Louis XIV, with the addition of ballets composed by Jean-Baptiste Lully. It is this “complete” version that will be performed by Emmanuelle Haïm and her Concert d’Astrée.
